Our facility could use some volunteers! We have plenty to do at the shelter, and would greatly appreciate the help. If you can, just let us know when you get here, and we will let you in. Thank you.
We are so unbelievably grateful to have received this honor to be awarded and recognized as a “NO-KILL SHELTER” during the entire calendar year 2022. We have worked incredibly hard to make our facility a no-kill shelter. This means a lot of work. A lot more cleaning and a lot more time spent hunting for homes and rescues. But it is time well spent as we know that we give it our absolute all to make sure every single animal that enters Surry County’s Animal Shelter gets to live the entirety of their life. This award was received by complete surprise and is the most significant achievement this facility could have received. Surry County Animal Shelter is a small rural facility in the south east of Virginia. Although we have a limited budget, the staff love and care for all animal residents and are willing to do what it takes to save all of them. We have a small number of staff which is why we require you to phone us to arrange a time to visit the shelter. Foster homes and rescues are welcome. We have put together a list of things needed at the shelter in case anyone would like to help out. Thank you so much in advance for always supporting us in taking care of all the wonderful babies we have. A big thank you for everyone who has already donated to us. We need:

- Adult dry dog food (21/12 from Johnson Bros, Surry preferred),
- Kitten Replacement Milk,

Thank you for helping. No Squeeky Toys Please
Toys that make a noise when you squeeze them can encourage some dogs to be aggressive towards young children because they squeek too. The device that makes the noise is usually small and can be harmful if swallowed. Some toys of this type contain a small battery which is poisonous if the dog eats it. The best toys are tuggers, tennis balls and hard chew toys that cannot be ripped apart.
