We are so unbelievably grateful to have received this honor to be awarded and recognized as a “NO-KILL SHELTER” during the entire calendar year 2022. We have worked incredibly hard to make our facility a no-kill shelter. This means a lot of work. A lot more cleaning and a lot more time spent hunting for homes and rescues. But it is time well spent as we know that we give it our absolute all to make sure every single animal that enters Surry County’s Animal Shelter gets to live the entirety of their life. This award was received by complete surprise and is the most significant achievement this facility could have received. This is due to an outstanding staff, volunteers, and the upmost support of Sheriff Carlos Turner. Thank you all for supporting and believing in our mission.

Notes: April came to us in April of this 2023 (hence her name) and took a bit of warming up to do, but now that she has, she is showing us her true colors. She is very friendly. She LOVES to give you her paws to hold (you have to be holding at least one when she sits with you). When she has the opportunity to run around, she will treat you to a game of tag and tap your head before she runs away to the other side of our outside runs. Good with dogs, other animals. Good with companion animals. Miss April would love to be a member of your family.

- Adoption of dogs is open to residents of Prince George, Sussex, Southampton, Isle of Wight, James City, and Charles City areas of VA.
- Dogs that have been spayed/neutered are available for adoption to any location including out of state residents.
